What is it?

A thread lift places special threads, which the body gradually dissolves, under the skin with a fine cannula. The threads support loosened tissue and stimulate collagen production where they are placed. PLA (polylactic acid) and PCL (polycaprolactone) are thread types that dissolve over different periods.

Treatment areas

  • Sagging of the cheeks and mid-face
  • A less defined jawline
  • Drooping of the outer brow
  • Loose skin on the neck

After the treatment

  • Swelling, bruising and a feeling of tightness may last a few days.
  • For the first 1–2 weeks, avoid opening your mouth very wide, exaggerated facial expressions and facial massage.
  • Sleeping on your back is recommended for the first few days.
  • If you have dental treatment planned during this period, tell your physician.

Who may not be suitable?

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Active infection in the treatment area
  • Bleeding disorders or blood thinner use
  • Marked excess skin that requires a surgical assessment

Possible side effects

The most common are swelling, bruising and temporary tightness. Less often, dimpling of the skin, a palpable thread or asymmetry may occur; most of these can be assessed and corrected at the follow-up visit.

Frequently asked questions

Do the threads stay in the body?
No. The threads are gradually dissolved by the body. How long this takes depends on the thread type.
